Important News About Our Executive Director

To the NIF community:

I’m writing to share the news that our executive director, Liam Getreu, let the board know he plans to depart the role at the end of March 2023.

Liam served as executive director for a decade, during which time the organisation has grown exponentially – reaching thousands of people in the Jewish community and beyond, raising millions of dollars for NIF’s important projects, and playing a significant role with policymakers across the country.

Today, NIF is the premier progressive organisation in the Australian Jewish community engaging with Israel. This is due – in no small part – to Liam’s consummate leadership and to the strong community we built together. It will be hard to see Liam go, but we are so excited to see what he will achieve next.

The board has begun the process to recruit a new executive director and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon. In addition to our own recruitment process, we welcome any considered suggestions for a possible executive director.

Importantly, I want to remind you that the NIF team – Liam, Eve, Max and Maddy – is doing incredible work and we’re confident that NIF is well set up to continue its success in the years to come.

We’re already deep into our planning for 2023 – with some important speakers and campaigns scheduled. We look forward to continuing to discuss – and take action in support of – our shared vision of equality, justice and democracy for all Israelis and Palestinians.

With the recent change of government in Israel, our work to protect the civil and human rights of everyone living in Israel, and under Israel’s control, is more important than ever.

Warm regards,

Ric Benjamin
Chair, New Israel Fund Australia

PS I know many in our community have built a special relationship with Liam over the last ten years. Don’t worry, he’s going to be with NIF for a little while yet, so there’ll be opportunities to get together as a community to thank him for his great work.
