We, concerned members of the Australian Jewish community and our friends, family and allies, call on the Australian government to do all that it can to bring the more than 200 hostages home, that were taken by Hamas on October 7th. 

The taking of hostages is a violation of international law and it is an affront to our very humanity. There can be no political movement towards a just and lasting peace until all are freed and so we, as proud Australians, urge our government to exercise maximum diplomatic pressure in coordination with our international allies, in order to pressure Hamas to return all of the hostages, immediately.

We call for all parties to observe the international laws of war, and ask that the Australian government utilise all possible channels to ensure that these laws are followed. Since the horrific attacks of October 7th, Foreign Minister Wong has repeatedly called for the unconditional release of all hostages. We welcome these calls and urge the government to continue to work with its allies in public and in private negotiations, in order to ensure that every single hostage is freed so that they may return home and peace may be brought to the region.
