It can be hard to feel good about Israel in light of news of recent events which threaten to totally derail Israel’s democratic infrastructure. With Israel’s new government announcing its intent to erode the pillars of democracy and attack Palestinians, the LGBT community, refugees and more, Israelis have gone to the streets to promote equality, justice and democracy.
In the midst of these challenges, join us to meet Amit Ben Ami and Ahlam Kasem Ali, inspirational leaders from our grantee, Tzedek Centres, whose work building shared Jewish-Arab power is one of the most important bulwarks against the ongoing threats of the new Netanyahu government. Amit and Ahlam will share their experiences in using community organising, leadership training and building activist communities through shared society.
Since 2021, NIF Australia has funded the Tzedek Centre in the shared city of Ramle, a unique model which provides local leaders with opportunities to come together to work on local issues, build trust and support between Jews and Arabs and support national reforms.
Their work in building a shared society, from bottom to top and building leadership with those in the periphery of Israeli society is needed now more than ever.
