Last week, NIF Australia funded an emergency grant to support families in Ashkelon fleeing Hamas’s barrage of rockets.
Those families will spend some time out of harm’s way in Givat Haviva, a community near Haifa which promotes Jewish-Arab shared society in Israel.
New Israel Fund Australia executive director Liam Getreu said, “We’re glad we can help to get these families out of harm’s way and into safety. Of course, given the inter-community violence we’ve seen play out, providing safety for these families in a shared Jewish-Arab community is a powerful statement about shared society Israel needs to be.”
He continued, “This is just the first grant we’re planning to give. We’ll continue to assess how our pool of emergency funds can be put to good use to address the crisis we’re watching unfold and provide a way for Australian Jews to help those most affected.”
