Join us for an illuminating discussion with leading Labor Knesset member Merav Michaeli.
Two months after Israel’s third election in a year, and in the midst of the COVID crisis, Israel still doesn’t have a new government.
In fact, the opposition has splintered, with Benny Gantz looking to join Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, splitting from Yair Lapid and the rest of Blue + White, while Labor leader Amir Peretz said he intends to join the Netanyahu-led coalition.
Michaeli has called Labor's move to join the coalition "a terrible mistake ... and I am doing everything I can to try and persuade [Peretz] against it, or to stop it."
Our discussion, hosted by NIF Australia executive director Liam Getreu, will cover all the political news, Netanyahu’s continued assault on Israel’s liberal democracy and the future of Israel’s political left.
Before being elected to the Knesset in 2013, Merav Michaeli was a leading journalist, an op-ed writer for Haaretz and the producer and presenter of her own prime-time documentary and current affairs television and radio programs.
In the Knesset, Michaeli chairs the Caucus for Female Knesset Members and has been a dedicated friend of NIF for many years, partnering with our efforts to curb the Ultra-Orthodox Rabbinate's hegemony over birth, marriage and divorce, promoting the integration of Arab-Israelis into wider Israeli society, and opposing racism and violence.
