We're Hiring an Executive Director

Do you want to lead our team?

New Israel Fund Australia, together with our global NIF partners, advances a just and democratic Israel that upholds equality for all, as envisioned in Israel’s Declaration of Independence.

To realise our vision, we partner with Israeli accredited non-profits, raise funds for their projects and engage our supporters and the broader community on the critical issues facing Israeli society.

We are the Australian Jewish community’s leading progressive voice on Israel. Since our establishment in Australia in 2011, thousands of people have come to our events and we’ve distributed millions of dollars to critical civil society projects in Israel.

Our executive director of ten years is moving on and we are looking to recruit an experienced leader to lead NIF’s fundraising efforts and manage and motivate a small, strong team.

The successful applicant will have a passion for our values, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to lead our fundraising, and the capacity and experience to work with the board and lead our community of supporters.

This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. NIF operates in a hybrid work environment with staff spread between Sydney and Melbourne.

  • Work with the board to set and implement strategy
  • Act as board secretary
  • Work with key stakeholders including staff, board, major donors, NIF in Israel, the USA and other NIF partner-affiliates
  • Engage closely with NIF Israel to understand the organisations we do/may support, define the projects we will fund and engage potential funders

About you

The successful candidate will have many of the following qualities and capabilities:

  • A principled, values-aligned leader who is collaborative, inspiring and visionary
  • Passion and commitment to NIF’s vision and values
  • Deep understanding of the socio-political climate in Israel and familiarity with the dynamics of Australia’s Jewish community
  • Able to demonstrate sufficient experience to take on this senior role
  • Self motivated with initiative and excellent time management, in order to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, balance competing priorities and adapt flexibly to changing situations
  • An excellent communicator who can build rapport with a range of stakeholders and work effectively with groups as diverse as federal ministers, board members, journalists, New Gen activists and prospective donors
  • Able to balance strategic and operational responsibilities to ensure both short-term and long-term goals are met
